Sophie’s dream of an outdoor wedding came true last Saturday. After weeks of unpredictable and wet weather, Saturday started out grey but then the sun came out of hiding and shone for the rest of the day.
Sophie and her bridesmaids stayed with us on Friday night and we started the day with Bucks Fizz with breakfast – such a good start to the day that I might have to carry on with it . They spent the morning getting ready and my house smelt of girls – shampoo, perfume, hair stuff .. with lots of laughter … a lovely change from my usual house full of men smelling of farm.
The day began with a magical blessing on out lawn overlooking the valley – the bridesmaids and flower girls looking beautiful and Sophie looked absolutely stunning. The guests waiting expectantly sitting on straw bales and chairs enjoying the warmth of the sun. Not a dry eye anywhere as Sophie walked across the lawn with her father to stand with Ben to the music of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros - “Home”. The blessing was arranged by Sophie & Ben with Celebrant Jennifer of Tailor made ceremonies - simple and moving.
The marquee (Capri style from marquee master) had been decorated by Sophie , her friends and family and was very personal with lots of lovely artistic touches – lots of natural materials- pine cones, feathers, etc. Even the cupcake stand was made of slices of natural wood, complete with bark. Flowers from Jan Waters of jwblooms.co.uk- lovely as usual.
The afternoon continued with a cream tea in the marquee, photos on the lawn and some in the field then a sumptuous cold buffet from Guy.
Drink flowed and everyone was happy and relaxed. Sophie & Ben are Beatles fans and had booked a Beatles tribute band to play –“ Meet The Beatles “who were amazing. There was a slight technical hitch when the band blew the power and plunged the marquee into darkness, however, we overcame that problem with ingenious use of extension reels and cables. The memory of 4 young guys dressed as the Beatles, Alex and me running around the farm through nettles in the near dark will remain with me for some time , as has my nettle rash. ! After power was restored a glass of Prosecco was required to restore my heartbeat to normal. The band were fantastic and everyone sang and danced to their favourite Beatles song. A lovely, lovely wedding .
Sunday morning - a late breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for Sophie & Ben and then time for them to leave. Sophie gave me such a lovely long hug of thanks that we both ended up in tears .
We simply love outdoor weddings and this one was perfect in every way - Sophie & Ben thank you so much for letting us share your very special day.
