Gemma & Andy came to see me only 6 months ago and immediately booked their wedding reception for 31 May 2014. They are a very relaxed easy-going couple and wanted their wedding to reflect that. They love music and going to festivals and wanted a festival style atmosphere complete with Glastonbury type flags and pie and mash. No problem!
After a very showery week, the Saturday dawned bright and sunny – beautiful at 6am when I got up.
Gemma and her bridesmaids stayed with me the night before and got ready here in the morning. After a glass of Bucks Fizz with breakfast, the house resounded with the sound of champagne corks, laughter and hairdryers! The bridesmaids were all ready and waiting for Gemma to appear, just as her father arrived to see her walk down the stairs in her stunning dress. She looked so beautiful that we were all in tears and I felt so privileged to witness such a special moment.
Off they went to their service at Woodlands Castle and the sun came out when they arrived back at Clavelshay Barn to begin the festivities.
Canapes made by our fantastic Chef Phi Verden were enjoyed by all together with glasses of Clavelshay Fizz.
After photos in the sunshine the guests entered the marquee for their meal.
Pie and mash with a very special touch – they were delighted with the food!

Incredibly delicious Vegetarian Pies

Handmade Petit Fours Clavelshay style with wild flowers from our farm
The evening went with a bang with great live music from “Living for the city” - a 7 piece band from London. Sax, trumpet, keyboard and fab vocals – they had everyone dancing all night. About midnight, one of my girls asked me if I could sew as there was a trouser crisis. One of the guests had split his trousers down the seam after over loading his pockets with phone, camera, wallet and after doing lunges on the dance floor! I fetched needle & thread and Astra sewed the trousers up beautifully and asked him to moderate his lunges for the rest of the night. Note to self – buy emergency sewing kit!
There was another interesting incident involving flaming Sambucca but I promised I would not mention the details (Luke).
A very happy day – with great atmosphere and lovely people.
Thank you Gemma & Andy for letting us share your very special day - it was a real pleasure and we wish you every happiness in the future.
