Firstly, we received a Silver Taste of the West Award for the 4th year running – rewarding our commitment to local food. Very, very pleased with that!
Secondly, we were nominated and shortlisted for the Somerset Life Food and Drink Awards 2012 – Restaurant of the Year and Chef Guy Horley as Chef of The Year. We attended the awards lunch at Venue J24 and although we didn’t win , we were delighted to be in the top 3 for both awards. Next year we are going for gold! Next time will not eat for 2 days before we go – large portions..
Wednesday evening we had a group of French customers who enjoyed their meal and told us that they had changed their ideas about English food – saying it was “ a little piece of France in England” Praise indeed..
Saturday a wedding – for Peter & Kerry -our last of the season ( another blog to come)
Sunday - traditional Sunday lunch and then a book launch in the afternoon for our very own Abigail Willis –who is part of our Clavelshay Barn family, being married to Alex our restaurant manager/ author of film noir and cinematography.
Abigail has written a book -“ London gardens A-Z “ – which is no mean feat living in rural Somerset and meaning lots of trips to London. It is a fantastic book and we wish Abigail every success with it.
The book launch took the form of a traditional cream tea – scones (no sultanas by request) clotted cream and strawberry jam), chocolate brownies, lemon drizzle cake, carrot cake - beautifully made by Brad and Guy. Alex masterminded a synchronised popping of corks for a toast to Abigail and everyone had a great time - we are very proud to have been involved.
