It’s the beginning of another year and time to remember some of the highlights of the past year.
JUST A SNAPSHOT OF MEMORIES...
A Farm to Table supper was held in conjunction with GrowEatGather and Stream Farm Broomfield to showcase the video made with Clavelshay Barn and Stream Farm.
Cheese Making, Food Photography, Foraging, Bushcraft and Christmas Wreath Making workshops were all held during the year and enjoyed by all participants.
An Irish Night in March with live band Diaspora had everyone tapping their feet and singing along – a great night.
A Tasting Menu was held on St George’s Day, and also on the inaugural Somerset Day in May showcasing the best local produce.
A dawn chorus walk and breakfast in May was thoroughly enjoyed by all who got up early – spotting at least 20 different species of birds on the walk around the farm. Hope to do another one this year.
12 wedding receptions were held during the summer, some large, some small and all very different – each making their day unique.
A star gazing evening with astronomer Roger O’ Brien was a great success, with Roger being amazed at our dark skies and said it was the best he had seen for years.
June saw us sad to see Phil Verden leaving as Head Chef, but delighted to welcome the French maestro Olivier Certain into the Clavelshay family, and also Joe Chadwick as Chef de Partie.
A French Night with French gipsy jazz band, Petites Annonces and, of course, Olivier’s fantastic food was a night to remember!
LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE RESTAURANT - HIGHLIGHTS...
January 2015 – my annual visit to see the starling murmurations at Ham Wall on the Somerset Levels. I never cease to be amazed by such a spectacle of nature – truly uplifting!
In April a special birthday trip to London to the Royal Albert Hall – Tchaikovsky concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, a river trip to Greenwich, and visit to the Imperial War Museum.
Two rainy days in a shepherd’s hut in deepest Devon... wet but lovely.
A couple of days off at the end of September in Cornwall gave me a memorable day at the Minack Theatre in beautiful sunshine and a day in the surf at Sennen Cove, recharging the batteries for the winter.
Concert by the Waterboys in December at the Colston Hall Bristol, a surprise birthday present from my lovely girls. Simply brilliant!
2015 was our 10th year in business – thank you to all our customers for your support and friendship.
A special thank you to a great team: Olivier, Joe & Lorraine for producing superb food, Jess and the girls for their friendly and efficient service front of house, and Nadine for fab website. And of course, last but not least my family who put up with me always being in the restaurant and not at home. I can’t do it without you all.
Looking forward to 2016!
Sue
